Lassi Sinkkonen - Solveigin laulu

Minulla kesti aika kauan ennen kuin aloitin Lassi Sinkkosen Solveigin laulun. Jotenkin olin Jojon jälkeen niin kyllästynyt ja kun selailin Solveigia ja huomasin sen kirjoitetun hieman puhekielellä ja stadin slangilla, niin kirja ei vain kiinnostanut.

Olisi vain pitänyt aloittaa kirja aikaisemmin. Se oli hyvä! Alkutunnelmmat olivat jälleen hyvät, vaikkakin puhekielisyys aluksi hieman ärsytti. Myös alun tyyli oli hieman sekava kun Solveig kertoo oman tarinansa, mutta koska eihän hän tietenkään voi kertoa asioita joita hän ei itse muista, niin alkutaipaleet oli kerrottu muiden ihmisten suilla. Välillä ei oikein tiennyt kuka puhuu mutta se oli ongelmana vain alussa.

Kirja kertoo Solveig nimisen tytön lapsuudesta ja nuoruudesta. Se alkaa Solveigin syntymästä ja loppuu kun tyttö on n. 20 vuotta. Solveigin elämä ei ole ollut helppoa. Solveigin äiti ei halunnut lasta ja tämä jättääkin lapsen heitteille ja pieksee tätä pahasti. Muutenkin äiti on erittäin kamala ihminen. Pettää miestään ja on kuin mikäkin hullu. Isä taas vaikuttaa ihan järkevältä mutta traumatisoituu sodassa ja sulkeutuu kuoreensa. Äiti toimii pirttihirmuna sanan kaikessa merkityksessään. Solveigin ja isän elämä ei ole helppoa. Hyvän kuvan perhesiteistä antaa heti alusta alkaen se, miten Solveig kutsuu äitiään Saaraksi mutta isäänsä kuitenkin isäksi. Oikeastaan melkein kaikki aikuiset kuvataan kamaliksi ihmisiksi. Kuvioissa on paljon väkivaltaa ja alkoholia. Pikkuhiljaa tällainen ihmisraunioiden kuvaukset alkavat puuduttaa. Toivoisin jo jotain pirteämpää lukemista. Kirjassa on kuitenkin onneksi myös valonpilkahdus, Solveigin isovanhemmat, Famu ja Fafa. Varsinkin Famu on ihana ihminen ja ainoa joka uskaltaa pistää Saaralle kampoihin. Famun ansiosta Solveigin elämä ei ole niin kurjaa kuin se voisi olla.

Pidin siitä miten kirja oli jaettu eri ”säkeistöihin”. Onhan tämä sentään Solveigin laulu.

Kirja ei ole helppoa luettavaa. Se on erittäin realistinen kuvaus nuoren tytön elämänvaiheista, kasvutarina. Sitä pelkää koko kirjan ajan monia asioita. Pelkää, millainen Solveigista lopulta tulee kun elämän malli ei ole paras mahdollinen ja tyttö on melkeinpä murrettu. Pitkin tarinaa huomaakin muutamia asioita jotka ovat selvästi huonon kohtelun tulosta. Sitä alkaa pelätä Famun kuolemaa. Mitä sitten kun Famu kuolee? Solveig jää täysin ilman minkäänlaista turvaa. Sitä haluaa uskoa onnelliseen loppuun, mutta koska kyseessä on näin rankka tarina siitä ei voi olla varma.

Teinivuodet menevät jo hieman paremmin. Pojatkin tulevat kuvioihin, rakkaus ja seksi. Realistisuus pysyy näissäkin kohdissa erittäin vahvana. Solveig voisikin olla myös nuortenkirja, koska päähenkilö itse on niin nuori ja käy läpi samoja asioita kuin kuka tahansa teini.

Kirja loppuu erittäin avonaisesti. Solveig jää 20-vuotiaaksi ja elämä on edessä. Sitä jää miettimään, mitä Solveigille sitten tapahtuu ja haluaisi tietää lisää. Mutta jotenkin uskoo, että Solveig pärjää. Varmasti traumatisoitunut nuori , jolla ei ole ollut ihan normaali elämä, mutta vahva hän on ja sitä ainakin haluaa uskoa onnelliseen loppuun. Aineksia siihen kuitenkin on kaikesta huolimatta.

Pidin kirjasta erittäin paljon vaikka välillä ahdistikin ja itku meinasi tulla. Vihasin Saaraa ja muita aikuisia mutta viha ei ollut niin vahvaa kuin esimerkiksi Jojossa oli ollut. Tämä on yksi niistä kirjoista joita voisin lukea uudelleenkin.

It took me awhile to start Lassi Sinkonen's Solveigin laulu (Solveig's song). Somehow I was so sick of reading after Jojo (Yo-yo) and when I was flipping through the pages of Solveigin laulu and noticed that it was written in spoken language and a little bit of Helsinki dialect the book just didn't interest me much.

But, I should have just started reading it earlier. It was good! The first impression was very good again, although the spoken language irritated me a little. The writing style was a little bit confusing at the beginning, because Solveig is telling her own story, but because she can't tell the things she doesn't remember, so the early life of Solveig is told by some other's, but basically Solveig is still telling the story (did you get it?). For a while, I even didn't know who was talking, but luckily, it didn't last long.

So, the book is about a girl named Solveig, her childhood and youth. It starts when Solveig was born and it ends when she was about 20 years old. Solveig's life hasn't been easy. Her mother didn't want her and abandoned her and beats her very badly. Solveig's mother is terrible person. She cheats her husband and is acting like crazy. Dad on the other hand seems reasonable, but he got traumatized on the war and shuts away. Mother is making everything to make Solveig's and dad's life miserable. You see a clear picture of the family relations at the beginning, when Solveig refers to her mother as Saara (mother's name) and he still calls his dad, Börje, a dad.  And actually, almost every adults in the book are pictured as terrible people. There's a lot of violence and alcohol in the book. And little by little these potraits of ruined human lives are mind-numbing. I hope I would get something lighter reading next. Although, there was one glimmer of light and that was Solveig's grandparents, Famu and Fafa. Especially Famu was such a nice person and the only one who could control Saara even a little. Because of Famu, Solveig's life wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I liked the way how the book was divided into different ”verses”. After all, this is Solveig's song.

The book wasn't an easy reading. It was a very realistic potrait of a young girl's one episode of life, a growth story. You are afraid of many things while reading the book. You fear what becomes of Solveig after all, when the pattern of life hasn't been the best and she's almost shattered. Along the book you'll see things that clearly are effects of the bad treatment. You'll start to fear Famu's death. What happens when Famu dies? Solveig will be left alone and without any protection. But still you would like to believe in happy ending, but because the story is so rough you can't be sure of it.

Luckily the teen years are little bit better. There's boys, love and sex involved. The realistic style is strong in these parts too. Solveigin laulu could also be young adult's book because the main character is herself a young woman who goes through the same things as all teens.

The book ends very openly. Solveig is 20 years old and a whole life ahead of her. You would really want to know what happens to Solveig after that. But somehow you believe that Solveig is going to be alright. Surely she is traumatized young woman who didn't have very normal life, but she's strong and at least you would like to think that after all, there's happy ending. There are possibilities for it.

I liked the book very much, although it was very fraught from time to time and I almost cried in some parts. I hated Saara and other adults, but even if the hatred was strong it wasn't like in Jojo. This is one of the books I could imagine to read again.
